NEW DELHI-National Council Meeting held at Arya Samaj Mandir, Cannaught Place, New Delhi on 15th April. National Council members from Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, Punjab, Gujrat, Hariyana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand and UP were actively participated.
Members expressed their unhappiness against DAVP. They told that working of davp are to be examined by high level committee. They are working against small and medium newspapers of the country. Result of last pac meeting are under questioned. They rejected application of small & medium newspapers without giving opportunity. Officers of davp assured us to provide opportunity of fresh cases of newspapers. But they did not follow their words. Decreasing of advertisements are also raised. Today small & medium newspapers are getting only 3 ads instead of 7. Davp is giving their advertisements to those newspapers who are selling news columns. In such way, davp is crashing 4th state of the constitution. Today newspapers are became an industry for not publishing information. They are trading to not publish information and getting benefit of it. Government of India is not serious about the freedom of press. They are crying to show their tears to the public. Only small and medium newspapers can fight and give a proper platform to public. Members told to start agitation and hunger strike to solve their problems.
Members expressed their unhappiness about state government of Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand for neglecting small newspapers. Members of Punjab and Uttarakhand asked to constitute their accreditation committee. Members of Uttarakhand told about the cases filed before Press Council and High Court of Nainital. They told that the information department is violating established norms. Members of Punjab and Andhra Pradesh told that the accreditation cads are not giving to district level.
Members raised discrimination and violation of postal guide norms for posting of newspapers. They are asking for service charges from newspapers at the time of posting in deferent rate. Postal officers are violating norms for registration and renewal of postal licence.
Addressing the national council of the association, Mr. KD Chandola, President told the members that he will place all these feelings before the government in a very strong way. He will try to contact his friends member of parliament to raise all these policy matters before parliament so that the government must express their justification and give proper direction to the officers. He told that he is giving all information and correspondence through ASNEWS. He told that another web site is being started and both web site will show our activities.
Meeting of the national council was conducted by Mr. Arif Jamal, The secretary and presided by Me. KD Chandola, President. All senior office bearer ware participated and given their valuable suggestions. In the last, Mr. P. Vishnumurthy, Organising Secretary, proposed condolence motion on the sudden death of Mrs. Sarla Chaturvedi, wife of Mr. Ashok Chaturvedi (General Secretary) and make silence of tow minutes for the peace of the soul.
